Raw materials composition of glass

Glass can be seen everywhere in our life, but do you know the raw materials of glass manufacturing. In fact, the raw materials are very complex, and according to their functions,raw materials can be divided into main raw materials and auxiliary raw materials.

The main raw materials determine the main physical and chemical properties of glass.After these raw materials are melted and reacted, silicate is formed, which constitutes the main body of molten glass, such as silica sand, soda ash, dolomite, feldspar, etc.

The amount of auxiliary raw materials is small, mainly used to improve the melting, clarification and forming properties of the glass or to make the glass have some special properties, such as colorant, clarifier (glauber's salt), flux (fluorite), etc.

In addition, cullet will be added during glass production. Generally speaking, not all new raw materials are used in glass production, but 15% to 30% cullet is added.
